From the film Keeping the Faith...

Father Havel (Milos Forman): "I remember I fell in love with this girl in Prague. It was 1968. Oh, she was beautiful. She looked like Carole Lombard.  She grabbed me. It was in the alley behind my church. She pressed me against the wall. She kissed me. [Sighs]  I felt like Richard Chamberlain in "the Thorn Birds," you know, in the barn with Maggie. Oh, I was so happy I could die. [Chuckles]"

Brian (Ed Norton): "You never told me this. What, did anything happen between you?"

Father Havel: "Not really. Flirtations, little moments. But soon after, the Russians invaded Czechoslovakia, and I moved to the United States."

Brian: "I don't know, i'll tell you something... if she had kissed me back, i don't think i'd be sitting here right now.  I would have given it all up.  I mean, she didn't, but...  [Sighs] I just keep thinking about what you said in the seminary, about how the life of a priest is hard.  And if you can see yourself being happy doing anything else, you should do that."

Father Havel: "[Chuckling] Well, that was my recruitment pitch, which is not bad when you're starting out because it makes you feel like, like a Marine!  The truth is, you can never tell yourself there's only one thing you could be.  If you are a priest, or if you marry a woman, it's the same challenge.  You cannot make a real commitment unless you accept that it's a choice that you keep making again and again and again.  [Sighs] Ha, I've been a priest over 40 years. And I fell in love at least once every decade."

Brian: "You're not gonna tell me what to do here, are you?"

Father Havel: "No. God will give you your answer."

welcome to the, how do you say... ah yes... umm... my xanga site. with much trepidation do you enter, i know.

ladies and gentlemen, good citizens of America, people of the world, yesterday was truly a momentous occasion.  i, along with two other willing compadres, watched the motion picture SEABISCUIT.  it occurred at 7:25pm to 10:55pm at the Loews Theatre by Boston Commons.  Yes, seabiscuit. you must watch it and prepare yourself to alternatively laugh, and cry, and laugh again, and then perhaps, just perhaps, cry again and be inspired from beginning to end.

i wish i could continue to laud the wonders of this amazing little equine, but i do have a short reflection paper to write. it's supposed to be on Catholic education and inner city poor children. but i shall write it on seabiscuit. i'm sure my professor, the Father Joseph O'Keefe, S.J., might be quite perplexed and perhaps peeved, but if it encourages him to watch the movie, i will be happy.
